I'm assuming that older cars didn't have that electric piece next to their EGR valve. Can I remove it and just make the vacuum line go from the EGR valve straight to the port on the TBI? As of now it goes from TBI port to electric device, then to the EGR.

I've ran it unplugged before and get no SES light. What would be the cons of doing this?

 

Mostly, it will be EGRing ALL the time, instead of only when it actually can do some good without affecting the engine's performance.

Older cars used a ported vacuum source to run it so that it wouldn't ba active anywhere near idle.

The electric device is a solenoid, controlled by the ECM, which tells it to come on only under certain conditions.

Altogether bad idea. Not sure what possible benefit there could be or why anyone would bother to do such a thing, even if it wouldn't hurt the way the car runs.

 

Some people really love getting rid of clutter in the engine bay.

So, looks like I'll keep it as is. But, when I get my new engine (carburated) I guess I'll just have to look into this ported vacuum source.
