Start from wiring under dash
How can I start my car temporarily until I get the new steering column installed? I have a bad steering column assembly and will replace it but need to know which wires I can use with my key in ignition to start the car. It has vats and the proper key. Anyone know which wires will start it?

Jump big yellow wire to big purple wire - you can also do it under the hood by applying 12v from battery to the terminal where the purple wire attaches to starter.

Last I recall, on an 89 T/A the power wire is a big red one and the starter wire is a big yellow one in the ignition switch harness.
