89 chevy camaro tbi hot start stalling and high idle

Sometimes when my car is still warm "I come back to start it up and then it stalls I try agian it stalls then if I touch the gas it starts and runs normal".

On a cold day my car idles at 1500rpm for "about a minute" and sometimes on a 70 degree day.

So far I changed the oil pressure sender cause it was not reading and today I changed the fuel filter and lots of rust was comming out of the line so I just drained it so will see about that.

What else could it be?

Any sensors that can cause this issue?

Re: 89 chevy camaro tbi hot start stalling and high idle

The coolant temperature sensor has a pretty significant degree of control over fuel mixture and target idle RPM. If the CTS is reporting low, the startup mixture could be rich and target idle could be high until the ECM sees a more reasonable temperature or has run the engine for about 90 seconds.

Before just replacing the CTS, check it. The problem could be the circuit and not the sensor itself. It could also be many other things, such as injector leakage and/or vacuum leaks, etc.
