Dropped my engine on the ground

I cannot believe I did this, I feel like freekin idiot. I was unloading my engine out the back of my truck with my engine crane. The transmission was still attached. I was lowering it down a little fast so I stopped it about 3 foot above the ground. When I tried to lower a bit more it dropped to the ground. The transmission took most of the hit. It wasnt really bolted very tight to the engine. The top bolts werent in. So it broke around the bottom two bolts on one side. It also broke the flywheel around the bolts. What can I do to make sure I didn't damage the crankshaft or anything else inside the engine. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: Dropped my engine on the ground

What broke, exactly? The block, bellhousing or transmission?

Chances are the crank is ok, but you'll have to take it apart and check it.

Re: Dropped my engine on the ground

The transmission bell housing broke around where the bolts were attached. The block looks fine. The end of the crank looks fine. It still turns over smooth. The oil pan has seen better days. The flywheel cracked in the center around all of the bolts. I think most of the damage was caused by the transmission not be tight against the block. It could of started cracking when I had it up the air. When I backed the cherry picker from the truck it started bouncing around. I didn't realize the transmission wasn't bolted tight and only three bolts were in.

Re: Dropped my engine on the ground

i'd recon that flexplate was already cracked before the
dropping incident-they can crack exactly where you
describe if car has been ran with loose belhousing bolts
or other tranny missalignment for a while-there may
be some red dust around the cracks if they have been
there a while...

Re: Dropped my engine on the ground

It looked clean like it was just broke. I got it on the engine stand. I might pull the oil pan off later today and look for damage inside the block. Any advice on what I should check?
Thanks
