set around

bought a 89 iroc-z that didn't get used much for 4 years before I bought it,I've replaced the front calipers and flex lines.repared some wires,Mice damage.Havn't run a full tank of fule through her yet.Previouse owner said it had fresh fuel in it,It's starting to backfire some out the exsaust and stinks like yek.I have put stabil and injector cleaner into the tank.fixing to add 15 gal of fresh fuel, any comments before I start her up again.I don't want to mess this motor or injectors up.

Re: set around

i dont think it'd hurt to run some seafoam through her just for the sake of the matter, i wouldnt go to hardcore on the fuel treatments just because ive heard some horror stories about it eating up fuel lines. worse case case scenario would be pull tank clean it out if you can fit your arm through the opening. and purge the lines you'd be good to go from there. go luck to you ill keep an eye out for a follow up let me know how it goes.

Re: set around

Check the fuel filter a few times to make sure there isn't a bunch of junk in the tank.

Re: set around

i would do a full tune up on it, spark plugs, fuel filter, fuel injectors, new coolant, new oil, new tranny fluid and filter, drain your rearend and new gear oil, all the goods, a car sitting that long will need a full tune up.

couldnt agree more this is your best bet then you've covered all your fluids and will be able to rule any of that out if there are any problems that arise.

Re: set around

ok,I think they may have done the spark plugs and wires but know they did't do the oil and filters, the tranny is having trouble in 3 and 4,talking to a member in kentucky about a 91 tranny for a fair price, you think fluid and filter might help a tranny that drops out after leaving second gear into nothingness? On your say so I will give it a try.cross your fingers.

Re: set around

Seafoam is a great product... It is multi-use motor treatment.
It is an:
injector cleaner
carburetor cleaner
carbon cleaner
fuel stabilizer
frees lifters-rings
de-icer anti gel
upper cylinder lube
dries oil and fuel.

Re: set around

dude mine did the same thing! i literally just swapped my tranny saturday if someone has an idea of how to fix this im gonna be mad haha but hopefully for you i hope so, i know my tranny had awful looking tranny fluid and not really a lot of it, i bought a used 7004r and im thinking it has a shift kit but im not getting any answers on the forum about it, fyi a dry tranny cost about $70 in fluid filter and seals a 700r4 takes 11.2 qts dry.
