ported head help

I have a set of 462 castings with 2.02 and 1.60 valves. they have been machined for screw in studs and larger springs, My question is they also have been ported. They have opened everything up I believe as far as it will go from the looks of it. They were on a running motor and the motor blew pieces of the top of one piston off. It seems to me that the builder didnt have the comp. ring gaps correct and the rings expanded and caused the top of the piston to pull a chunk out of it. (thats just my guess). Or ran nitrous? The heads do not show any cracks or thru holes from the porting but in between the intake runners there is only about (less than an 1/8 inch left of material). Everything seems solid but that just seems a bit much too me. Can you over port as long as you dont hit a water jacket or blow thru your push rod pockets? The porting looks good and everything has been polished but It just looks extreme to me. All but the possibility of OVER porting the heads look great> I can get a pic of the heads if that would help. Thanks for your opinions

Re: ported head help

Did you have a shop look at them? Nothing like putting them in the hands of a knowledgable professional. They can't charge much for that, maybe $50? And that's money well spent.

Re: ported head help

Yes you can overport its done a lot more than people think, not much advantage to moving that wall in anyway. Long as the gasket seats Ok you should be allright. Pics would be great

Mike Stark at CFM performance could give you an expert opinion he is well known for his cast iron porting. Beautiful work.
