Need some help guys.

Ok, i purchased a 1982 camaro for cheap needed back window. alittle info
-ran like crap from the day i bought it never seemed to be firing on all cylinders, replaced every dang ignition component possible, still didnt fix it.
-took it to a mechanic who found 0 compresion on cylinder 1, it was the exhaust valve spring that was broken. He put a new spring on and bam i was ready to go.
-i had drove it maybe 5 times since i had bought it and very short distances. I looked at the oil sticker and this is embarrasing it said change before 110000 miles and it has 109xxx i didnt happen to look at the part that said or before January of 2001..lol..
-well 2 days after i got it fixed it developed a ticking noise like tick tack tick sounds like valves attempting to open and close and it also has a knocking noise that is loud with rpms but at idle it will go knock knock quite knockidy knock knock then quites and repeats while the same tap tap tap clunck tap noise is going on.
i was just driving and it started these noises and i greatly lost power.

-i took the car home and took both valve covers off to find the amount of slude u would find in a car with 500xxx miles on it. all the components were good no broken springs, however the rocker arm on cylinder one i could wobble back and forth quite abit and u could spin the push rod easily with no effort wat so ever.. me mechanicing by no experience and a haynes manual i called up my buddy who is mechanically inclined and we cld tighten it until u could barely rotate the push rod and wait a second then it would be looser then hell again.. so we tightened like the manual said and sure enough it was loose again the threads arent stripped.. it just seems like it auto loosen's however i dont think that is the problem.

-today i ran a motor flush through it and then put high mileage penzoil 10-40 in it and replaced the filter.. it quited the knock alittle bit but the super clicking/tapping and a slight knock was there.. the knock got louder once it warmed up.. im stumped..thanks 400 dollars mechanic bill u fixed her for 2 days.. any help would be appreciated.

Hey its generation3kid... I am an automotive tech for a living... you need to remove the intake manifold and replace your lifters... most likely they are no longer holding pressure.... while you have the intake manifold off you might want to check your cam lobes for flat spots and measure the lifts...

about 8 miles south of Hutchinson-- Kansas.....im just unsure i might have to take the oil pan off and inspect the rod bearings that would rule that out... more than likely from what ive read..and as much as i dont want it... its probly a bad bearing... idk about the loud tick tick tack tack tickidy tick tick tack its almost like u can hear each valve slam close and open.

okay.. try this method... take the valve covers off... and run the engine for a few minutes, let it only idle the whole time from the point of start... once it starts ticking, then take a scope and listen to each valve from the rocker studs... check the valve lash before starting the engine would help too!

Re: Need some help guys.

i may have to can u run it with the covers off i heard oil would spurt out pushrods...from what i understand the tick tick tack tack came first which cause the knock knock quite knock and that knock gets nasty if u give it ne gas. idk how to even describe the knock its like rapidly hitting a hammer against a peice of metal
