Faulty Fuel Pump?
I'm in need of some serious help. I own a 92 350formula. It has 315,000 miles on it.
About 1 1/2 weeks ago, I started noticing that when I turn my key in the "on" position to startup, the fuel pump was making a more rough (kinda like struggling) sound. Now I didn't and don't hear anything out of the norm outside of that. Well as of 4 days ago, I had the car in idle and the rpm's shot up to 1500 and then came crashing down. Car was acting like it was going to stall. I turned it off. I turned it on 2 more times after that and it was doing the same thing, with each time it actually stalling. Seemed like it was out of gas. Had half a tank. After the 4th try it got going again, albeit the problem was still there, and I made it about 1/4 mile before it stalled again. Disconnected battery, to try and reset any computer reading it may be seeing as faulty and again got it about another 1/2 mile, with the missing and cutoff still lurking. After that, I couldn't go. Stalled in the middle of a 4 lane highway. lol. But at least in a turn lane. I called a tow and waited. I tried about 6 more times to start it and right away it would miss and want to stall. After about 35 min's, I started it and it idled fine. But I couldn't take the chance to drive it home, so I waited for the tow truck.
Fuel Pump? I got a tester and hooked it up the fuel system. It read 34 PSI when running. It sometimes would dip to 27 and go right back up to 34 or go to 30 and sit there before gradually going up a little to 34. I let it run for 30-40 minutes and it shut off by itself. I started it up and it was of course missing and wanting to stall. I read my gauge and it was reading 13 PSI.
Now I know this sounds like a faulty Pump, but I wanted your opinions before I go and pay someone $800 dollars to pop in a new one.
Thanks in advance.
