ls swap
im still learning this site so been having trouble finding answer, im looking at two cars, a 87 iroc Z 5 speed with an upgraded 650 quadjet carb, body lil rough but no rust at all for 3. there is a 91 Z clean as hell but tpi 5 speed. if i were to swap to say an LS motor, i know there is a 1900 dollar conversion kit for computer for the fuel injection for the LS swap, will the TPI need that computer as well? and will i be saving myself the need for that computer by going with the 91 Z28 tpi in future as i learn more. He wants 4500 for that car. I plan on driving car for couple years and learning alot before i really start modding car. all help greatly appreciated thank you

Re: ls swap
welcome aboard.
if you're doing an ls swap, about the only thing you're keeping from the car is the body
fuel system will need upgrades, new wiring and pcm, exhaust, etc. either car would be a good starting platform, so go with the one you like more. the differences in fuel systems is a very small part of the overall swap, not enough to sway towards one or the other.

ok so i wouldnt be saving any money by going with the tpi car then in future, no i like it and body is better, but for fifteen hundred bucks less i can go with the first car, plus he's going to give me a mopar 327 with 50k miles on it that was rebuilt.

Re: ls swap
you may be able to sell off the tpi to recoup some money, but i doubt $1500 worth. If you like the cheaper one, do it!

Re: ls swap
i went with the more expensive one, has a mint body and only a bit of rust under the bumper.. its an 89 iroc z 350 auto with a rebuilt tranny and shift kit. runs great so i have time to save up money for a new engine and learn. i have heard getting an lt1 or ls would be the absolute best engines. i want to stick with fuel injection because it gets better mileage and response... i want to find an engine mainly a block. what is the best block out there. i want to get it and then buy books on it so i can put it together slowly and learn as i go. i feel thats the best way to go about it. any recommendations on the best block overall that can build the best power.. small block that is. i know ls is aluminum so its lighter so i take that into consideration.
