i take absolutely no credit for this information but i felt that it would be very helpful to a lot of people and i haven't seen this link on here so hopefully this helps people out.

It should be noted, that basic list of codes does NOT work for ever model. A friend of mine was working on his 87 Carbed Z28 and was having trouble with the code. He asked me and pointed out that he got the code from a TGO tech article. That article did not seem to mention the codes were not year or model specific so it left him chasing his tail.
For instance, a MAP code on that list could also be a MAF code.
