Bad Knock, need new engine
Bad Knock, need new engine
Hello, thought Id ask for some advice on this one. I bought a 92 Trans Am convertible as a parts car but decided to get her back on the road. The guy who sold it to me said the crank is bad. he replaced the bearings and it burned another one. I'm thinking about getting a 350. What 350 blocks will work with the 92 TPI setup? And where should I look for one? Looking for new or rebuilt
Thanks
Thanks

Any 350 block will work, the heads will be where you will have to be careful. Your TPI setup uses the 1987+ heads, so you'll need to get center bolt style heads if you don't want to have to modify the lower intake manifold.
what to look for depends all on your budget, what you can do mechanically yourself, and what you want to do with the car.

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere

All-around easiest thing to do would be to get a functionable junk TBI or Vortec truck short block, and put your cam, valve train, heads, & intake on it.

All 350 blocks are not created equal.
If its just a block you want then you're going to need a 86+ because of the one piece rear main seal. The crank for that will also affect your flywheel/ flexplate. Also real early will have the dipstick on the drivers side but no need to get into all the details here.
Then watch out for getting too late of an engine as they don't have the hole for the water pump bypass since the bypass was done with the tubes coming off the pump.
Its little things like that get you to say "oh fudge!" when you stumble on them
