Head selection

About a year ago I bought a car with a 1979 4 bolt main GM 350 bored 30 over. I would like to get between 350 and 400 usable HP and decent TQ. I am looking at max HP around 5500-6000 RPM if possible. My biggest problem is I do not know what camshaft is in the car. I was told it has a 500 lift and from what little the previous owner could tell me it is very similar to comp cams 12-223-4 with the following specs.
Cam Style
Mechanical flat tappet
Basic Operating RPM Range
2,000-6,000
Intake Duration at 050 inch Lift
236
Exhaust Duration at 050 inch Lift
236
Duration at 050 inch Lift
236 int./236 exh.
Advertised Intake Duration
282
Advertised Exhaust Duration
282
Advertised Duration
282 int./282 exh.
Intake Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio
0.495 in.
Exhaust Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio
0.495 in.
Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio
0.495 int./0.495 exh.

I am running an edelbrock RPM manifold and 600cfrm carb with an MSD distributor and coil. The manifold and carb I can change out but would prefer not to but I would like to keep the cam. The valve train is from what I understand is rebuilt 882 heads with comp cams roller rockers 1.5 and 600 lift springs.

So what I am getting at is can you guys give me a recommendation on some heads to give me a nice street machine that are assembled and ready to bolt in? I want to keep it streetable and have good low end tq but I would like a nice upgrade over my 882 heads with a compression bump and I am not looking to do any head work just but a set bolt in and go.

Heads I have looked at I am budget minded and I don't feel like going vortecs and buying a new manifold on top of head prices.

Dart S/S 165 with 2.02 and 67cc $800
World Products Torkers with 2.02 67cc $750
Pro comp 190cc Refinished by skip white with 2.02 64cc $700
Pro Comp 190cc Refinished by Mr. Performance with 2.02 64cc $750

Re: Head selection

If thats the cam you have in there, its gonna like abit more port size than those torkers or 165 dart's listed. But you dont need a cam that big to get that power you want if the head is decent.
Could probably do a cam swap at the same time to make sure you know whats in the car. Something abit smaller would help driveability.

Might beable to find a set of profiler 195's for $950 but that may be more than what you wish to spend. Worth it tho IMO as you can then run a smaller cam and make that power.

skip white pro comps i'm unfamiliar with but they are 210cc and probably better suited for a 383 but COULD work..it be abit lazy down low but scream well over 6000 rpm. May be too much for you with a 5500-6000 rpm cap. If your bottom end can handle it, go for more rpm and make well over 400hp From what I've seen posted, procomp makes ok castings but they need looked over well before using. Skip White I'm sure does this and cleans them up if anything is wrong and puts on good components.

Re: Head selection

I'm using the procomp 210 with 2.05 in. valves, unmodified, and they work great with 2000-6000 cam 2400 stall, great low end, can smoke the 285/35/19 1st and 2nd off idle no problem

How do you like the procomps. How did they look? Who did the assembly? Would you buy different heads given another chance?
