Winter teardown #2 almost complete!!
Well guys its been a long cold winter and I have been busy away like a bee in the barn tearing down and re doing my small block as it should of been done the first time last year. Tore the engine out not soon after the first snow fall in November and have slowly been working at it to build this small block as big as I can without going over my budget. So far here is what has been done:
Cylinder Heads:
Started as 98' Vortec 062 casting 64cc heads
215cfm max flow (based on the flow chart)
Flowed well up to 4500rpm then started to back flow
Stock Srings
Stock Rockers
Stock Studs
I spent over $1100 on headwork alone and here is what I am working with now:
Went from 215cfm flow to 250 after very mild porting and polishing
7/16 studs
1.6' 7/16 Comp Cam Almunium Roller Rockers
3 angle valve job
New valve seals
Comp Cam Pushrod Guide Plates
Comp Hardend Pushrods 1 piece
Old Camshaft:
Edelbrock Performer Plus Hydralic Flat Tappet
.424 intake .436 Exhaust
New Camshaft:
Comp Cam Xtreme Energy CS XE268H-10 Hydralic Flat Tappet
.477 intake .480 exhaust
Lift with new 1.6' ratio
.508 intake .512 exhaust
I also port matched my EdelBrock Performer EPS Vortec Dual Plane intake as well as gasket matched for as much flow as possible and on top of my intake I went from a 650cfm Holley Vaccum secondary/electric choke to a 750cfm Holley Double Pumper w/ mechanical secondaries no choke. The bottom end is staying the same for now forged pistons, stock rods with ARP bolts and a steel crankshaft turned .10/.10. The only reason i decided to redo the engine this winter was last year the engine gave me alot of problems and never ran quite how I had hoped. So this spring should be a big turn around and this engine Im hoping will run as solid as I wanted the first time I built it. Ill take some pics and post them up soon of the engine as it goes together and will make a video of the cam break in so you can all get an idea of how she sounds. Im very anxious for this snow to melt and I have alot more to do to the car once the snow melts. If anyone has and question or suggestions please feel free to post. Thanks for reading guys!
