Hey all, I went and looked at an '89 Camaro that has a carb'd 305 and it has idle issues.. when he first started it up, it kind of idled rough for a few seconds then died. Second time it almost died until he gave it a bit of gas and it finally started to idle, but again quite roughly.. idle also fluctuated RPMs.. He's thinking it's the IACV, and I agree. He just put a new fuel pump in, so I doubt that is the issue. I just want a second/third/fourth/etc opinion.

1989 didn't have carb from factory - is it a carb or is it a TBI?

Could be any number of things. Bad coil, bad dist cap, bad rotor, bad ignition module, bad pickup coil, bad wires. Could be IAC, TPS, injector. Could be vacuum leak. Timing could be off. Maybe firing order on plug wires off. Bad plug.

Have you pulled codes from the computer?

 

I just briefly looked at the car.. I'm going back next weekend with a friend who's a mech.. I don't remember if it's a carb or tbi, I forgot. I'm too tired. He said the timing is a little off but would that make that big of a difference?

 

I agree with the last guy; time to run a diagnostic test.

 

I'll try and pull codes when I go back. What pins do I jump? A pic would be nice.
