Replacing cracked block for other used/unmachined block. What risk?

O.K.

My V6 block is cracked in the cylinder wall number 5. Previous compresion test was 118 psi. (132 psi putting oil in that cylinder). Then, I assume that the rings are in good condition (168 psi. in the others cylinders).

If my block has 130.000 miles and I replace it with other similar block with 30.000 miles only, without any machine job (no bored, honed, fluxed, etc.).

(I mean a homemade cheaper job).

What could be the risks?

How does the rings know that they are running into other cylinder walls?

2010 emission test was:

HC (ppm): 63
CO (%): 0.33
NOX (ppm): 612

PLease help me with yours opinnions and advice,

Thanks,

Denis V.

The rings are not going to seal properly. They mate to the bore, more so the diameter. This happens pretty quick on startup with new rings and a prepped cylinder. At the very least, you should replace the rings. If there are places near you that sell a hone, buy it and hone it yourself.

you're already going to have it apart which means a gasket set. At that point, you should at least hone the cylinders and re-ring the pistons.

It just makes good sense
