L69 Won't Start - Getting Fuel, Spark, Crank
84 Z28 L69 5.0 Non-CC Carburetor
New plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel pump, fuel filter.
Getting a good spark, getting plenty of fuel. Started right up after I replaced the plugs/wires/cap/rotor and even started fine the next day. Today, it won't start.
It stutters and acts like it is trying to start with every other round of the engine. Starting fluid doesn't affect it either.
The gasket under the carburetor is crap and is leaking gas on top of the intake (I know this is dangerous, I have a new one, just haven't installed it yet). Is that gasket causing my problems?
I may go out there right now and it start right up. It's totally intermittent and there's no explanation.
Does my car have the VATS system? There's no chip in the key and I see a resistor under the hood between two wires. There is a little box in the driver side kick panel, but it hasnt been altered.
So is this a VATS thing or the carburetor gasket?

Do you have an HEI distributor? My car was doing the same thing yours is (mine is a 305 TPI though). My guess would be the ignition control module. They almost always test ok when their bad. Do yourself a favor and spend the $25 on a new one. And if its anything like mine... I was still getting spark even though it was bad.

Sorry to sound like an idiot, but what is HEI? My distributor has 3 plugs on it, (1) 2 wire and (2) single wire plugs.
Where does the ignition control module reside?
Thanks for the quick reply!
