Intake & Mass Airflow Sensor ????

First off thanks for helping, I was wondering we really need the mass airflow sensor? If i took it off and it didnt throw a code what should i do with it (the sensor and wires)? do i just cut the wires or pull them somehow..

Also, Can the MAS sensor be directly infront of the intake manifold or does it need to be closer to the intake filter..

Who makes Headers, and intake kits for 88 2.8L ?
Help please

Re: Intake & Mass Airflow Sensor ????

I haven't seen a 2.8 in decades but, a MAF (not a MAS) is what communicates with the computer so the computer knows how much fuel to add so the vehicle does not run too rich or lean. The O2 sensor also joins in that dance.

I know that on my 4th gen if I disconnect the MAF the computer runs a predetermined mixture (tends to be rich) and goes into speed density mode

I would not remove the MAF but am curious as to who told you it was a good thing to do?

As for headers for the 2.8, you are kidding..............aren't you?

Man why is it a big deal that us with the 2.8L want to build our cars? We all love camaros so why do people give us hell for wanting to make our cars perform better?

Ok so with that said,.... does it matter where the MAS sensor is located on the Intake? Like does,it have to be directly in front of the filter or can it be in front of manifold ???

I have no issues with 4 cyl, 6 cyl or 8 cyl Camaros. But, with a 2.8, if it were me, I'd spend the money on appearance mods.

Re: Intake & Mass Airflow Sensor ????

Apperance wise she looks good but I want performance. Id love to have the 5.7 or 5.0 but i got the 2.8 lol.

Is there a certain spot on the intake that the MAF sensor has to go? OR can it be put anywhere on the intake????

Is there no one who will tell me if there is a certain spot the MAF sensor must go?
Or can it be put anywhere on the intake set up???

Re: Intake & Mass Airflow Sensor ????

Closer to the filter would be better. Just make sure there arent any air leaks between there and the throttle body.

Re: Intake & Mass Airflow Sensor ????

Would it make a big difference if it was in a diff place?

Also, If i get a custom intake then there is no purpose for that Giant Stock air boxes right.. those look like extra weight to me..lol

Re: Intake & Mass Airflow Sensor ????

best response from sensor is within 18" of the throttlebody.

Re: Intake & Mass Airflow Sensor ????

no you dont need the extra stuff. the most important parts are the sensor, and the filter. but honestly, if you have the dual snorkel setup, you cant get a better intake, as that one pulls cool air from outside the engine bay, as opposed to sucking up warm air from inside the engine bay. goodluck!

Re: Intake & Mass Airflow Sensor ????

You really think that the stock snorkel intake is better than an aftermarket one with a bigger filter? I cant tell a diff in power with the aftermarket and stock..

Re: Intake & Mass Airflow Sensor ????

if its the dual snorkel one, thats shaped kinda like an "S" then yeah. it pulls cold air from outside then engine bay, cold air is more dense, meaning its more air getting into the engine. an aftermarket intake setup will pull hot engine bay air.

Re: Intake & Mass Airflow Sensor ????

Man I have a single aftermarket intake system and i cant tell a difference between the stock snorkel and the aftermarket one i have. I can say that my MPG is somewhat better.
