Help Identify This Cam
I recently bought an 84 Z28 with an L69. The previous owner rebuilt the engine with stock parts (except for the cam) about 1500 miles ago.
I've looked everywhere that military internet will let me go trying to find some information on this cam:
"Part #" JPA-1022
Specs: .447/447 .222/.222 @ 050 .290/.290 Duration 114* Lobe spread
It was rebuilt at one of their local machine shops, and they were told it was a stock Corvette cam from the same year (which I doubt)
If you know anything about cams and could give me some insight I would GREATLY appreciate it

Re: Help Identify This Cam
One quick note:
I did find this http://www.lunatipower.com/Product.aspx?id=2438&gid=298
A supercharger cam? Any idea how this would affect (power/torque/mileage) a stock motor?
Any found this once I got home https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tech...rappy-cam.html

Re: Help Identify This Cam
Your last two links pretty much sum up what you have. I cant tell you by the part number who made it, but I'm sure any number of cam manufacturers out there have done it at some point in time. The JPA- prefix just isnt something I've seen.

Re: Help Identify This Cam
It's the L79 cam; the "350 HP 327" cam.
One of THE ABSOLUTE WORST cams ever made. A total mismatch for any modern motor. People buy it because it's .... the "350 HP 327" cam. I do not know of ONE SINGLE INSTANCE where anyone who has ever put that into a rebuilt motor, was happy with it; especially not after they swapped it out, and geting id of it REVOLUTIONIZED their motor.
It idles kind of rough, especially in a 305; not seriously rough, but it "hits" a little. It produces very low torque; with a stock converter, people tend to complain about having absolutely no "leave" whatsoever. It feels like it'll wind out forever, and the longer you hold it in low gear, the more it feels like the power is going to "come on" in just another couple hundred RPM, but it never does. It gives low idle vacuum (power brake trouble), TERRIBLE gas mileage in most cars, and all of the familiar "big cam" problems without really giving any of the "big cam" benefits.
A really, really, BAD cam, all the way around. I'm sorry you got stuck with it. It's one of those things that's designed to be "sold" because people "demand" it, on account of its romantic-sounding name; not because it actually is any good.
A known good cam for your setup is the Comp XE262.
Throw that other in the trash and get the one I just posted. You won't BELIEVE the improvement.
