Hey, so I'm not that good in the knowledge department with engines! I'll admit that! But I've done some mods to my L03 and now I really want to put in a new camshaft. I've done an open element, and full cat back exhaust with a Magnaflow muffler. I've got a new intake manifold and headers for the car...wanting to put those on when I do the camshaft. I've done research, and I think this is the camshaft I've chosen.... (ZZ4 camshaft 10185071 208/221 - .474/.510 112 LS) .
Now what all do I need parts wise to do this mod? Will this Comp Cams kit be all I need, or will I need more parts?
Comp Cams #249-08-601-8K
Engine internally is completely stock except for a 160 degree thermostat.
Any info is REALLY appreciated thanks!!

Get the kit, you'll need to swap the valve springs with the cam. The cam itself is fine, little on the large side for a 305, but there's nothing wrong with that as long as it idles good for you (and that's personal taste) and runs well.Originally Posted by BigRogZ28

Performance wise do you think that the Camshaft will be a good choice? It says the springs (I'm assuming the valve springs is what the kits talking about) come with the kit. Do I need any other parts to do this swap that aren't in the kit? Is there any other parts I should really think about getting while having them put the Camshaft in? Thanks for helping out guys!

Not a good match for LO3 heads and 2.73.
Did you trie out the camquest6 download from compcams?

I have not tried the camquest6 download from comp cams, what is it exactly? Why is that camshaft not good match for L03 heads? Also I have a pair of 3.42 gears going into my car soon, so the 2.73's won't be an issue by the time I get my camshaft in. Do you have another camshaft suggestion thomas1976. or anyone really?

You'll have to be careful with a cam swap to a degree - too much cam and the ECM might know what to do (other than dump fuel in), and you could end up with less performance. There's a fine line with the TBI ECM, once it's crossed your into custom chip tuning and it's not easy to get/do on a TBI car since it doesn't have as many parameters to change in the programming as a TPI setup has.
And yes, LO3 heads suck - so might not ever see much for gains with those bad heads. But again, swapping heads means crossing that line into "The Custom Chip Zone".

I have a friend who programed my car's current chip, I think he could tweak it with the new info of the camshaft that I choose. I really need to know if the kit I posted earlier has everything I'll need to have the swap done, or is there additional part(s) I'll need to get. Thanks!

For a decent upgrade cam swap, tuning is mandatory. if serious/major tuning is required best is to go with EBL flash http://dynamicefi.com/
Maybe I'm looking a the wrong cam, is this the cam you posted? http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/c...?csid=217&sb=0
187 casting are in general, around 4000-4500rpm peak flow, heads.
For the parts needed to do a cam swap check out the LT1 cam digest in the TBI forum https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tbi/...-ultimate.html
Cam Quest http://www.compcams.com/downloads/register.asp http://www.camquest.com/
Flow # https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tbi/...-headflow.html
The hp #s that come up are probably way to high for the 187 heads, but I never tried a good fit cam comp cam with 187's, so not sure.

That is the same camshaft. I honestly don't understand a lot of the stuff about camshafts, and what I need to do to swap one in. I'd like to find one with good performance gains but not have to do too much except swap parts... if that makes any sense. Basically just do it with as little hassle as possible. Could you suggest another camshaft that would make my L03 more aggressive thomas1976?

I'm no big cam expert either, but using the information you have gathered in this post you can get wery close to what you are looking for.
If you do not want to type in the numbers yourself, you will have to call the cam manufacturers and do it over the phone.
Post back your findings.

Thanks for all the help and info thomas1976. I think I'm going to just slow down, read though everything you provided, and everything out there, and try and come to a good decision. I've got a lot more reading ahead of me
