Operation: Investigate Knock!

So I bought my camaro last year with a slight tick, drove it for a bit and it got worse. So I fixed my truck so I could drive it, and then I decided to start working. It sounded like it was a lifter tick. So I pulled the intake manifold and decided to take a look. OH BOY did I find something, the PO had to different length push rods in there, he had 7.950 in cylinder 6 which is were I heard the tick, bought new push rods and why not do the lifters so I bought those as well. Put it back together fired it up, GREAT still a knock or tick . So I stripped it down to see if I could find anymore evidence on whats making the knock. I pulled the heads and this is what I found!Operation: Investigate Knock!-101_0023.jpg

Re: Operation: Investigate Knock!

Found more out today, I have the motor completely torn apart. I have a comp cam XE262H, SCAT crank and connecting rods, and Claim pistons.

I got more pictures too.

WOW

I hope anyone who even considers buying a used or junker engine to just drop into their car will look at this. Yes, you bought the entire car but there is so much crap out there, and with the age of these cars, you really need to be able to budget a teardown/rebuild unless the seller has good documentation of the rebuild they performed.

How are the cylinders? Is it sleeving or new block time?

Re: Operation: Investigate Knock!

The bores are very smooth, I have one groove in the #4 cylinder but im pretty sure I can smooth it out. Im glad I took it apart thou, to see what I had in there, Im going to take a micro to the crank and cam see if there still good, they sure look like they are. I hope there ok, that scat crank is a little pricey!

SCAT rotating assembly, Comp Cams XE262H cam, all going to be checked to see if there still in spec, pricey if there not, lets hope they are!
