m55a high pressure on 383 stroker turbo

is it a bad idea to run a stock volume high pressure oil pump on a 383 stroker with a stock oil pan?? i will be using the oiling system to lube my turbocharger and maybe add an engine oil cooler. This will be a mild engine ~400hp before boost and ~650hp with boost. The oil pump, m55a, came with an extra spring to lower oil pressure, i like my oil pressure to be in the 25-30 psi range at idle and ~60 psi range at wot.

any suggestions?

The only thing I'd be concerned about is pressure to the turbo. Too much pressure can hurt the seals so you may need a restrictor. I dont use one and not sure how accurate my oil gauge is, but I see over 60psi most of the time and I have a standard pressure pump but a plus 10% volume setup. I use a 6qt pan.

Stock pan should work as long as the pump maintains suction As long as there is good drainage back to the pan from the turbo and the oil cooler doesnt have too large a capacity you should be ok at 5 qts.

I might upgrade oil pans. I want to avoid doing this because i would have to redo the crossover pipe. im sure ill have plenty of clearance between the tubular kmember and a larger capacity oil pan. do you have a high volume pump?

I already have a restrictor on my turbo i forgot what size it was but it was what everyone recommended for the turbo.

Re: m55a high pressure on 383 stroker turbo

I have read a high volume pump can suck a 5Qt oil pan dry thats why they say use a bigger pan.

I was thinking about going with a high volume pump on my SB build but after reading that a high flow/volume pump can run the pan dry I went with the stock type pump.

I running a extra oil cooler that brings me to 8 Qts with a 5 Qt an.

the m55a is a stock volume but high pressure oil pump, if i go with a high volume i will def. get a larger oil pan

Re: m55a high pressure on 383 stroker turbo

Mine is a 10% increased volume over stock, whatever stock is i am not sure. I had a high volume high pressure setup on my 383 and it basically pegged the gauge constantly but I also used a deep 6qt pan with baffles for no starvation.
