wanting to go dead

problem is when the motor is warm, it tries to go dead at a stop light. almost like a small skip. when the motor is cold for the first few miles, it runs like a top. it kinda sounds like something electrical is breaking down but i have replaced every electrical part on the car except the plug wires. i did look for jumping spark last night and didnt see any. this is on a 1990 iroc with the 305 tpi. any suggestions would be great.

Re: wanting to go dead

I had the exact same issue. Start up and first few miles were fine, then stop at a light and it stalled. What a pain in the a$$. I checked the plugs and they appeared to be ok, but since I had them out I changed them with ac delco-never use Bosch on the third gens, they weren't designed for the set up. Now your answer: Take off the mass air flow and lay it so the round mesh side is pointing upward and the two plastic intakes are in a downward position. Use starter fluid and spray the heck out of the inside of the mass air flow, the position of the mass air flow will allow the fluid to run out. Let it dry. Repeat the process. This will clean out any dirt that is trapped in there. DO NOT USE CARBERATOR CLEANER FLUID! The problem should go away. If the problem goes away but comes back you need to replace the mass air flow. If the problem persists after claening the mass air flow replace the EGR valve. It's located directly under the TPI round tubeing. Good luck and let me know if this helps.
