5.0 HO Air Cleaner

I hope I am posting in the right area since this seems to be kind of a tech type question. I have a 1985 Trans Am with the 5.0 HO motor in it. The Air cleaner on it had dual horns and used to have intake tube that connected to plastic ports on the radiator support. In trying to restore my car, I have gone to look at several "HO" cars and none had the same setup mine does (none were 85's). I ran across an 84 HO that had a 'power bulge' hood and the air cleaner on it had a single horn with the intake tube as well as a circular opening in the top that connected to the hood. On Ebay I found an 85 'listed' as an HO (VIN is H coded, not G coded) and pictures of the engine shows a single horn (like the 84 above but no power bulge hood) with the intake tube, and 5.0 Liter HO on the cleaner.

Is the Dual Horn a 'standard' for the HO and things like the 84 with a single horn/hood intake optional or is the air cleaner setup something for certain model year productions of the engine?

I'm not a camaro guy, but IIRC, the Camaro's with the H.O. L69 got the dual snorkle intake whereas the T/A's got the single snorkel with the powerbulge hood and cowl induction. Check out Thirdgen ranch for the parts you need, they should have them.

Re: 5.0 HO Air Cleaner

'85-86 Trans Ams with L69 HO engine use the same dual snorkel air cleaner that the Camaro Z28 with L69 HO had been using since the introduction of the option in '83. This is due to the new louvered flat T/A hood for '85.

'83-84 Trans Am with L69 HO use the same single snorkel air cleaner and functional "turbo bulge" hood as the base LG4 engine.
