Lots of problems
So on my way to work today, the camaro decided that it was going to not be nice to me... Sooo here is what is going on..
Was on the highway running about 70mph (speed limit here)
I see my oil pressure dropped, was an exit from work said I would stop when I get there.. Car had other plans.. Went to stop at a stop light and she died
So got out nothing smoking making weird noises ect ect tried to start her nada.. Was like well lets look at the oil. had like 1/2 of a qt on the dip stick.. So i am smart enough to carry oil with me... I poured 3 quarts in (all i had) she started right up... Love
right about now any other motor would of locked up..
SO i take off on my way and she starts running like crap was having to two foot her to get her to work.. Then I see white smoke and smell antifreeze.. Look at the heat gage it was spiked all the way up. So i drove her the 2 blocks to my work.. Park get out and blam anti freezeing going every where.. Said F it was late for work all ready.
UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE
Went out to see her and make nice on my lunch hr.. started her she died did it again left my foot on the gas she stayed running.. took off about 2 min later and she died again.. Did a 3rd time and see stayed running with my foot off the gas but was rough.. And i had good oil pressure again..
Any thoughts???? She sat for a few months b4 i got her.. I am think bad gas.. But what would of caused the overheating?? Would the motor having low oil pressure cause it to run hot? Kinda stumped here..
Thermostat is good, oil pressure is good, has 1/2 tank of gas.. More than likely been in there for awile.. I got some fuel/fuel ing cleaner and dumped in... Been working on cars for a long time and this one has me at a loss..
What do my new camaro experts think??
Thanks in Advance..
Randall

Re: Lots of problems
was this the first time that it had been driven in months? I can't tell based upon your post.
You added 3 quarts; did it need all 3 quarts? Were you really down that low?
it then overheated and you continued to drive it?
I prefer the "bullet method" of understanding a problem so I do it in my mind. Unfortunately I can't do that with the data provided
example
very first time car has been driven in 6 months
just purchased it

Re: Lots of problems
I'd find the overheating issue before I went farther.
We also need car info, I assume it's a 1988 RS, which would make it a 305 TBI LO3 car - but assumptions make for trouble - let us know what it is exactly. 5 speed or auto?

Re: Lots of problems
I am afraid to tell you......but, that engine was telling you goodbye!
If you had white smoke coming out of the exhaust, you at least popped a head gasket, and since the stock casting heads on these were light in the material, there is a good chance the heads are now cracked as well.
Also, if you basically ran the thing out of oil, you did the bottom end no favors and probably beat the bearrings out of it.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but its time to pull the engine, and do some inspection.
