Re: whats the diff between 305 and the 305 HO in the 84 motors
the main internal differences are the "H.O." L69 version
had 1 point higher compression(9.5 vs 8.5)and a
hotter cam.There were a lot of external differences too;
-dual inlet air cleaner
-corvette catalytic converter
-larger passage exhaust manifolds
-bigger exhaust system
-electronic spark control
-deep groove alternator and A/C pulleys
-electric fan
-some later ones had electric low pressure"boost"
fuel pump
IF you have the standard 150HP LG4 305,upgrading the
camshaft and exhaust will give a major power increase
-sure woke mine up back in the day
The L69"H.O. 305 was rated at 190hp,200hp when
premium gas used(some testers reconed the output
was closer to 220hp judging by the performance#s)

Re: whats the diff between 305 and the 305 HO in the 84 motors
to wake up my '82 LG4,i installed headers-cheap
cyclones,and a 3"super single exhaust with custom y
pipe and no converter. The cam i used was sold by
weiand and had specs slightly hotter than stock L69
specs.Rejetted the carb to compensate for the greatly
increased breating capacity.Other modifications included
making functional air induction hood and adding an
electric fuel pump as the original mechanical one would
not keep up at over 5000 rpm for some reason.
I recon modified 305 was putting out around 220-230
hp and z28 was far faster than with engine in original
configuration
this was all back in 1991-94,swapped in a corvette 350
in 1994(still have the original 305 preserved)
No replacement for displacement, but the 305 is a
small block chevy so all the usuall "hot-rod"tricks work
