Re: low mount alternator

I'm assuming your getting rid of the serp bracket system? If so, why not mount the alternator on the pass side (where it should be in my book anyway)?

Know that, if your changing from the factory serpentine bracket system to ANY other system, you'll have to replace ALL the accessories (water pump, p/s pump, A/C, and smog pump). In other words, the mounting holes in the serpentine accessories will not work on any other bracket system EXCEPT the factory serpentine system.

Alternator - serp has holes at 12 and 8, non-serp has holes at 12 and 6

water pump - serp system uses a reverse rotation water pump, all others use standard rotation

p/s pump - again - the mounting holes are located differently, a serp p/s pump won't connect to a non-serp bracket

A/C - completely diferent - serp setup has small A/C compressor on pass side that is short to accomodate valve cover, nonserp has compressor on driver side that is a longer old-style unit.

Re: low mount alternator

You'll need a pre 1988 alternator for anything other than a factory serp bracket - you need an alternator with mounting holes at 12 and 6 oclock - then you can use any bracket you like for it.
