Cam type and good upgrade possibility

I am about to pull my heads off because of a blown gasket and some stripped threads on one of the heads. I thought while I was in there I might upgrade the cam and lifters. I went looking for a cam and all I could find were rollers. My car is a 91 Firebird 305 TBI. Does this car have a factory roller cam? If so would a cam from a corvette the same year be a decent upgrade? Also what lifters would you suggest. This will be a daily driver so not looking for anything too crazy.

Yes, it's a roller. An LT1 cam out of an alum head engine is a good/cheap upgrade.

I will most definitely put the roller rockers on. Unfortunately I can't afford vortec heads.

Re: Cam type and good upgrade possibility

Lt1 cam is most cost effective. Otherwise look into a Compucam or Crane computer compatible cam.

Re: Cam type and good upgrade possibility

Just make sure your head's springs can handle the increased lift of roller rockers.
