new 350 block, piston questions

I just purchased a block http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWNX%3AIT and I don't know if I have to buy new pistons or just get oversized rings. stock pistons in it now and look to be in good condition

the listing has ended
Ya think??

Upon scrolling farther down the page that had the "listing ended" message" at the top, I found these words

BORED 040 OVERSIZE
That would be the size of pistons and rings you need.

Thanks for your help! I will order those tonight, pistons are floaters, pins look good, should be able to reuse those you think? just replace the retaining clips?

Re: new 350 block, piston questions

What good is having a block already bored without the pistons to match up the cylinder wall clearance? Generally when you get a block bored, you supply the pistons at the same time so they can finish honing the cylinder to provide the proper clearance. If the new pistons you purchase provide too much clearance, you're buying a larger set and having it bored out again. If a block is sold pre-bored, it should be .005 - .010 undersized to allow final honing.

There's a good chance your new pistons will provide enough clearance that a simple cylinder honing will give the proper piston to wall clearance. Don't expect to just drop in the pistons and be done with it. If the clearance is too tight, they'll seize up once they heat up. Cast, Hypereutectic and forged pistons all require different clearances with forged being the greatest because they expand the most.
