Trying to figure out where this vacuum hose goes
earlier today i was replacing my wiper motor and when i pulled out the old motor this hose was just laying underneath, when you start the car it starts to suck air, i know a couple weeks ago my father in law said he could hear something like i had a vacuum leak or something and im thinking this might be it but i don't know where its supposed to go back on at. thanks for any help on this.

Re: Trying to figure out where this vacuum hose goes
If I'm not mistaken that is manifold vacuum.
On my motor that went to the transmission. TH350.
There are other applications that use it also.
I don't know your setup.
Sucking air from there is a serious effect on performance.

Re: Trying to figure out where this vacuum hose goes
If it's "sucking air", then it doesn't need to go to manifold vacuum; it already has it.
It's impossble to tell anything at all from the pics. They're blurry and have no contrast. Plus, the motor is obviously filthy; desperately needs a trip to the quarter car wash. Just CLEANING IT UP might make it a whole lot easier to figure out what you're looking at.
What's at the other end of it? It's like wires; what's at one end, is often a handy clue as to what belongs at the other.

First thing to do is to get a chiltons repair manual at a local auto parts store, they have the vacuum diagrams in there. You'll need it for other things anyway.

Ultimately, that vacuum line supplies vacuum to the HVAC vacuum servos under the dash to change from floor to vents to defrost.
In 87 I can't remember where the vacuum reservoir is, though, unfortunately. It's either....
1. A straight shot to the "mini-mailbox" shaped vacuum reservoir above the power brake booster or
2. It goes to a T fitting off which one side goes to the round vacuum reservoir inside the front of the driver's fender and the other side of the T goes into the main wiring loom and up under the dash.
First type is older, second setup is later models. Can't remember where the cut-off year was, but I think 87 is the later setup.
