few donuts and fuel guage doesn't work now?
Hey guys, I just did a few donuts with the Trans Am cause I was bored and now the fuel gauge is pegged at full; I know that it was at around 2/3s when I was doing that. Is it possible that the float got stuck somehow? It's a brand new Dorman sending unit with less than 300 miles.

Well I guess it fixed itself. After a little bit of driving today, the fuel gauge suddenly dropped to where it's supposed to be.
I guess it was just a stuck float from me screwing around.

Next time it happens, do donuts in the opposite direction

Re: few donuts and fuel guage doesn't work now?
Maybe... I replaced the fuel pump/sending unit myself a couple months ago and I cannot for the life of me remember what the inside looked like when trying to think of something that might've gotten caught on the float.
And I noticed that the problem comes back whenever I top off the car. Usually the gauge will drop to about 3/4 from normal fuel consumption and at that point, it'll go past full and stay there for a little while, maybe a day or so and then it'll return to where it needs to be. Maybe it's an electrical glitch? Either that or it might just be that the float frees itself when the fuel reaches a certain level. It's happened 3 times so far, with the first being after those donuts and the rest being from topping off the tank. It actually happened this morning on my way to school, and I noticed it fixed itself when I returned home. Maybe that little fishtail in the rain today coming back might've done it?

Actually I do whenever I top my car off. The meter says its a bit under full and then shoots up and stays there for a couple hours and then goes down to where it should better. Idk what the problem is but its not so bad so im not really worried on it

I didnt know that doing donuts could make your car more fuel efficient! I'm going to have to try and do some after every fill up!
