Re: tools need for ud pulley install

My March set had water pump, alt, and crank. Alternator was the most difficult I put on gloves held the pulley and hit the pulley bolt with the impact wrench came off fairly easy. I can't recall for the OEM Balancer but my new ARP bolt does not fit in the center of the March Crank Pulley, so it takes a large breaker bar to break it loose and a torque wrench to tighten it again. If you do have to remove the harmonic balancer bolt make sure to get it tight again bad bad things happen if one walks loose off the snout. Water pump is easy it's just 4 bolts (maybe nuts if you're using a stud kit).

Alternator is normally around 1 o'clock position on top side, Power Steering 4 o'clock position, AC (if you have it) 10 o'clock, Smog pump 8 o'clock, Crankshaft (harmonic balancer) 6 o'clock, and the water pump is basically dead center.

Tools:
Sockets (may torx too I can't recall)
Ratchet
Breakbar
Torque Wrench (for the balancer bolt if you remove it)

I ran the alternator pulley for awhile but developed power issues so I went with a smaller pulley off eBay. The nice polished one is in my toolbox still.

Re: tools need for ud pulley install

Crankshaft pulley is connected to the balancer. There is a few bolts (3 I think) spaced out around it. There is one massive bolt in the center. If you have to remove the center bolt (balancer bolt) to get the pulley off and install the new one that's how you know. The balancer bolt holds the balancer against the crankshaft to keep it from walking.

Found you a thread about the crankshaft pulley. Yes it looks like you're need to remove the balancer bolt also. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tech...ft-pulley.html

Just be careful with the balancer bolt. That's not something you want to strip out. When you go to install the bolts again make sure you start all bolts by hand for a few turns to make sure they are not misthreaded before using a ratchet on them.

I've never had to hold the engine when taking out the bolt.
