fan problem

OK,my secondary fan(pass. side) no longer comes on when i use my fan switch. (I've had it wired to an on/off switch for a few years now) Anyhow, if i pop the hood and gently tap the fan it comes on. If i tap it a little harder it goes full speed like it should. Any ideas? Relay or wiring maybe?

Re: fan problem

what circuit? inside the fan? Does tapping on the fan itself rule out a bad fan relay?

Re: fan problem

I would say the fan is intermittent (bad). Especially, if you tap on it, and it runs briefly.

I was burning up relays till I replaced the pig. There was a bad connection that caused heat to build up, and the relay fried. You may want to check your old relay for signs of excess heat.

This is true... if the connector / pigtail is not making a good connection and arcing intermittently, then this will cause tremendous heat build up and damage the relay.

Re: fan problem

What do you mean by checking the old relay? I switched relays and it works perfectly now.

I should have elaborated more. My old relay had brown on the plastic around 2 of the connections. The brown meant too much heat from resistance. I noticed it after my second relay. It was fried, and it had the same heat scorch marks. The pig had some meltage around the connections that mated to the relay. After the new pig install, the relay didn't burn out.
