bigtime vss problem

Last week I started a thread about no power well it is actually a vss problem. Basically you stomp on the gas and the TC don't lockup plus I get a code 24. Now my problem is I have the double pointer speedometer I know I should have the 145 mph speedo. How can I fix this problem what do I have to do. I am basically asking where do I need to start I really want to fix this problem.

Hey, warren,

Listing your car's year, make, model, engine and so on is very helpful.

Apparently an early model dual-pointer speedo was swapped into your car at some point. If in that swap, the VSS wasn't hooked up (backside of the cluster 82-89) for some reason your problems might be explained.

I've swapped my speedo head several times (though never an 82-84 dual-pointer model) from an 85 to 110 to a 140 and never experienced any issues.

Re: bigtime vss problem

My main concern was if they were the same and if it would work with my ecm. I have never messed with the vss on any type of vehicle. Basically I want to know can I go to napa buy a vss for a 1989 camaro and have it work without problems.

Re: bigtime vss problem

Since speedo heads and entire clusters (V6 to V6 and V8 to V8) are frequently swapped between auto and manual cars without serious issues, I'd guess vehicle speed sensors are the same. I'd also guess that the difference could well be the ECM and how it appropriates the signals it receives.
