Automatic shifting problems with a 87 305
Although I know how to restore a car's interior, but I no lickeyly spit about engine/transmission work. Not sure which transmission I have but I have a 87 z28 with the carb 305, and automatic transmission. So the problem, my car seems to have a difficult time finding third gear, once I get to about 25/30 mph, the rpms still hiking up to 4000 rpms, and it would problably continue to hike if it wasn't for me stepping off the gas. In fact the only way to get above 30 mph is to keep hitting the gas until it reaches 4000 rpm or the car actually slips into the next gear.
My car has 112,000 miles and neither the transmission or the engine have been rebuilt yet. I am starting to think its time to have the transmission rebuilt, since this problem is starting to happen with more frequency.
Any advice?

Try adjusting the TV cable - it's not a matter of adjusting it this way or that, it's a matter of making sure it's where it's supposed to be - read this: https://www.thirdgen.org/detent
May or may not make a difference - but it's something to try.

ugh you know i hate 700r4's
do yourself a favor and if you get it rebuilt, have it done better than stock, with some stronger parts
im pretty sure the trans is about to go, but sometimes a good ole fluid and filter change will help
