Car won't start.
Hey,
I have been trying to figure out what's wrong with it for quite some time. I'm hoping that something I say can help you guys figure it out and I can get her running again. I think #4 might help someone figure out the main issue as it seems to me to be a good hint. If I had half a mechanic's brain it seems like something that would make sense to me. Engine is a 383 stroker with 3k on it or so.
1. The car could start and drive perfectly as long as it warmed up. I had an issue one day where I couldn't start it for a good 5 minutes, but I took a break, came back 5 minutes later and started it right up. Also, the last time I took it out, I didn't let it warm up and i shifter twice or so and it felt like the car died and then kicked back into life (after this happened twice i parked the car at the side of the road and let it warm up for a few minutes, didn't happen again)
2. The weather here was really fudged up a few weeks back. One day it was nice and warm and the next it was freezing cold. I've been told that it may have had a negative effect on my spark plug cables or anything else necessary to start.
3. I was working on the heater core several weeks back and took apart the entire dashboard. I believe I put back everything in proper order, but is there a chance I may have missed something.
4. When I put it all back, it wouldn't start anymore. At first I cranked the ignition a few times and it made all the regular noises but wouldn't fire up. A friend came by with quick start in a can (i believe it's carburetor cleaner) and we sprayed some in. It fired up for a second and then automatically died right back into the same noises. That would be the belt turning and pretty much everything BUT working.
5. I gave it a jump although I figured it was gonna be useless seeing as how everything in the car electrically was working fine. It did nothing.
I've been told to check my distributor cap to see if it's corroded as well. I'd love to but once again the weather here has been just awful for the past week or so.
Please, I'd really like some help on this. I don't want to give it to a mechanic to tow. The car had no issues a month ago and today it's really pissing me off.
