Do I need a key Chip without an ECM?

I am %100 sure that i'll lose my keys in the future. Before I pay $100 for another, couldn't I just get a key made without it? I am running a carbureted 350. Does anyone know if this will work?

Thanks!

Yes. The key chip is read by a separate unit, not by the ECM.

But you can also do a bypass for like easily under a dollar, unless you hafta to go buy a whole packet of resistors to get the ONE that you need. Got a friendly source for electronic components? Just need 1 resistor.
