Think I broke a connecting rod

So I am stopped for a light, then make a right turn when I hear what sounds like a marble banging around in the block. I limp it the 5 minutes home at a very low RPM and pop the hood to see what the hell is going on. Didn't sound like anything in the heads, and when I grabbed my did stick it felt like I could feel something hitting it. Which makes me think a connecting rod is broken and was hitting it. I haven't taken anything apart to inspect yet. I'm going camping for the weekend tomorrow and need to get packed for that. Next week I guess I will take the valve covers off and hope to see something in there, but I have a feeling I will end up dropping the oil pan. Any advice is welcomed. I was just getting ready to pick up a sbc 400 long block I found on craigslist (worked him down to $50 on it too) that was going to be a winter project. Now I'm not sure if I should still get it or just plan on pulling the 350 and doing what I need to it. I know the 400 will need a complete rebuild more than likely. Guy said it has been in the garage for about 10 years.

Sounds like you'd better get the 400 and start rebuilding it. At least it sounds like it's rebuildable.

If something is hitting your did stick, you probably did the engine in.

Wow, key in on the details don't ya! "Did" stick. I'd go back and fix it, but oh well.
