Re: timing 92 camaro
Well factory is 4-6 degrees its a good start but factory specs are set low because of emissions so u could start at 6 then test drive if u like it leave it but for more performance just start bumping it up by 2 degrees and drive till u find the sweet spot

So would 8-10 degrees allow better performance? would it be necessary to use higher octane fuel?

Only if you get pinging.

Re: timing 92 camaro
I wouldn't run high octane fuel tho. No need for it. Just lower your timing, the cheaper gas burns faster anyway.

TBI. I would be willing to go to mid grade for a performance boost.

Re: timing 92 camaro
If I remember right the TBI should be timed to 0*, so the middle mark on the timing cover is where you want to set it to with your timing light.

Are you still using 87 octane?

Re: timing 92 camaro
Going anything more then 87 is just waisting money unless u have the compression to make it usefull i always run 89 mid but its not for performance reason compression 10:5 and lower 87 10:5 higher 89 + just my 2 cents could be wrong

OK, I am gonna play around with my timing on my tbi also, but with gas up to 4.00 +, I would like to stay with 89. Do you know if advancing the timing past specs puts more stress on the engine?

Re: timing 92 camaro
Again in my opinon it does not add stress i retune all my vehicals the factory sets timing based on emissions not performance and retarding the engines capabilities i think holding an engine back is way worst at adding stress then allowing it to runn free like it should hence upgradeing intake, headers, injectors, tunning all allow it to flow like it should but the green thumbs of the world have alot of money and get what they want sometimes ya cant beat them all
