iac/tps problems

so, the camaro was idling high, and i was at work, so my wife took it to midas... well they told her that the iac was bad so they unplugged the iac and the tps and set the idle down with the screw... well i replaced the iac, plugged them bboth back in and it still wants to die, so i left it running and unplugged the tps, and it started running just fine, turned it off then went to run somewhere later, and it was wanting to die again, so i unplugged the iac and it started runnin decent again. (decent meaning when they are unplugged idling around 2-2.5g's) i just dont get it... would one affect the other if they were both messed up?

Re: iac/tps problems

I had a TBI engine that just wouldn't idle once. I tried everything I could think of including removing the IAC to check the pintle for carbon deposits. There weren't any. I finally found the culprit, a hairline crack in the threads of the IAC that was almost invisible. Swapped for a good used one and the engine idles like new now. Just a thought and it's free.

Re: iac/tps problems

It could. To check the TPS. get a digital volt meter. and probe the A and B wire terminals on the connector with the key on engine off. It should be about .54 volts. Then slowly open the throttle. while doing that watch the voltage on the meter. it should rise steady and consistent all the way to WOT. If there is a brake in voltage anywhere replace the tps. If not the set the tps at idle (throttle closed) to .54 volts. But not less than that. To set it just loosen the 2 screws that hold the tps to the throttle body and move it in either direction till you get .54 then tighten them down.
There are ways to test a IAC but it requires the use of a scan tool. But there is a procedure to set it on here just do a search for IAC and you'll find it
