Disabling fuel/ignition on 305 TBI?

Hey all,

So after throwing more parts at it than needed, it's come to doing a compression test on my 305 to find out if valve seals might fix it, or if it's in need of rebuilding/replacement. A spark plug analysis confirmed that it's burning some oil, but I'm not sure how bad it's looking yet.

I don't think I need to go into how overly general and vague Haynes manuals can get, so I need to know what the PROPER way of disabling the fuel and ignition are so I can do the test. I've read of one way to disable fuel that says to disconnect the harness from the pump itself...surely, there must be an easier way? Or is getting to the pump itself the only way?

Also, I've read to "disconnect the wiring harness from the ignition coil", but there aren't any pictures of this, or even info on where relays for things are located. Some more specific instructions, or even pics would be tremendously more helpful than this crappy book!

Thanks!

You can just remove the coil wire from the coil or the distributor cap - no coil means no spark means no fire.

Unplugging the harnesses to the injectors sounds like it would stop fuel from getting to the motor, but wont the fuel pump still try to send fuel, and build up pressure in the fuel system?

I just unplugged my TBI Injectors when I was trying to get it in time. You can always pull the fuse for the fuel pump
