hey guys i just picked up an 86 iroc-z t-top auto trans with a 305 tpi ...
the car did not like starting at first hot or cold made no difference so i canged the ect (engine coolant temp) sensor and now the car fires up every time no issues... but i have an issue the temp guage dont work and when the car is in a coast the idle fluctuates between 1250 and 1750 rpm wondering what could be the cause and is there a way to check see if the electric cooling fan works with out jumping it at the motor itself i would like to see if the whole system works?

 

so tonight im changing the temp sender for the guage hope this makes the guage work and im going to change the temp sender for the rad fans at same time and install new air filters hope this makes thing little better but when i get a chance to drive it to work im changing the fuel filter and go from there lol but not sure why the engine revs up and down when coasting or slowing down if i shift manually it does not have the issue but its not a fix for the issue

 

well after changing the temp sensor for the guage it still dont worrk and i never took it for a drive but the rad fan works great and with air filter and fuel filter change it did not changet the reving up and down when coasting to a stop in drive

 

try changing the iac that has alot to do with your idle
