How do I remove Vortec valve seals

What is the method for removing the valve seals on the 062/906 vortec heads? Just grab with some pliers and pull? Don't want to stick a screw driver in the bottom and damage anything. I picked up some vortec 906 heads that were crack checked and resurfaced. I plan on changing the valve seals before using them though.

pliers it was. Really easy too. Now to get some new Viton seals.
