Question about pieces found under valve cover

Hi everyone,

I've been working on cleaning up the outside of my engine. I pulled the valve covers to repaint them and found these just sitting on the head:

I assume the one on the left is a valve seal but I'm not sure about the other two. Any help would be appreciated!

-Mike

Are all the retainers/valves intact?

Re: Question about pieces found under valve cover

I'd pull all the valve springs and start looking for ones with missing components.

Re: Question about pieces found under valve cover

Those are all parts of most likely the one valve seal. Have you changed cam or rocker ratio lately?

Re: Question about pieces found under valve cover

Wow, that was fast guys!

So it looks like I need a new valve seal. I guess I should probably get a whole set since I doubt they've ever been replaced. Are there any concerns of damaged parts because of this?

Re: Question about pieces found under valve cover

The lack of valve seals arent going to do much but cause extra oil consumption. Do you see much/any blue smoke out the back when you start it up or engine-brake?

The parts floating around in your oil is a little scary, but they seem big enough they wont get drawn through the oil pump - hopefully.

Re: Question about pieces found under valve cover

Looks like all the metal bits are there. Dont know about the rubber seal stuff. That will migrate around the motor and get into places where it doesnt belong. Probably be a good time to locate the one that came apart and see if you can retrieve all the peices.
