Rough idle?

Well ill start off by saying im 18 and i own an 02 BMW 330ci Vert for a year now and recently bought an auto 88 Iroc-Z with a 5.7 with 81k miles, i spend most of my time on E46Fanatics but i recently noticed a problem in the Iroc, once in a while it will idle pretty rough to the point where its shut off once , this is my first american car so im not too familiar with what normal is in these cars, any ideas?
