Idle drops below 500 rpm and car shakes
Hi, When my car usually gets to 180* and up everytime i would go from speed to a stop. the rpms would go from normal idle to dip to 500 and sometimes lower to 400 and the car will begin to shake a bit. What's going on here?

Edit: i didn't take anything off the engine yet. It still has all that anti pollution crap and everything else. It's a 5.0L FI

Ok, Well start with the easy stuff... I would check fuel pressure, check all vacuum lines, and then listen for any vacuum leaks at idle... Sometimes vacuum leaks have a tiny whistle like sound. Make sure you ensure all connections are tight... I am not too experienced with TPI but hopefully I can help you with the basics.
I see you previously had transmission issues, would that have anything to do with it?!

Yeah, But, the culprit was my car being on a slant in my car port. It never does it on the street. It's just the angle. Thank you for all your help so far. I cleaned my throttle body with cleaner and there was a lot of gum and stuff on there. It helped the issue a tiny bit. It only prolonged the low idle for a few moredegrees. So, I'm guessing it has something to do with my engine temp and air flow? I don't have a compression tester but I will listen for a whistle. I have the service shop manual for my 86. It should be able to work me through it.

Only when the car is at a slant? Thats funny, I would replace the fuel filter and check fuel pressure.
What I'm thinking is that your fuel pump could be going out but from my experience with fuel pumps they usually either work or they dont.
When at a slant the fuel pump has to push the fuel upwards, making it harder for the pump to push the fuel up through the lines and to the fuel rail. My dads Mercedes does the same thing, sometimes I have to put it in neutral and let it roll to the flat street then start it there.
I think its worse for carbed engines with mechanical fuel pumps since they have to pull the fuel from the tank. When at a slant the fuel in the tank also goes closer to the rear, if could be lowering the fuel level where the pump is at but its not that severe due to the shape of the tank.

Im having the same sort of issue. Check out my recent thread, greekitalianman and see if the issue sounds the same as yours. To me it sure does.

What i meant was the transmission only makes that clicking noise when i'm in my car port. The rmp drop is always no matter where i am as long as the temp reaches 160 and higher it starts to do it. It's like clock work too. as soon as it hits 160 it'll do it.
