fuel pressure question

fuel pressure question

Just got new Bosch 3 injectors and new Egr. Getting hesitation during acceleration at stop lights and sometimes.stall if pedal hit too hard. Replaced iac and temp.sensor as well. Checked fuel pressure running and it is at 35lbs. When I shut it off it goes up at 40 and stays pressurized. just got car two weeks ago and don't know history. Shouldn't it be around 43.5? Should I change fuel filter first and test again?

How are you checking the fuel pressure? The proper method is to hook your gauge up to the fuel rail's shrader valve. Then disconnect the fuel pressure regulator hose from the manifold and plug it with a screw or something (this will simulate fuel pressure at WOT.) Ok, then start your car and let it idle. The pressure you see on the gauge at that point is what you want to pay attention to. Stock is around 43.5 psi. Some cars may like less, some more.

Ok so do I plug the manifold vac hole once the tube is taken off or the tube that was taken off to the regulator?

Just unplug the regulator's vac line at the regulator end, and cover it with your finger.

Should go to 43ish. If it doesn't, try a new regulator.

Should be around 38ish at idle with the vac line hooked up. Roughly 5-6 psi difference between full vac and no vac.

Thanks for replying but what you are saying is not perfectly clear still. You keep saying to plug "it" when that could refer to two things in your sentence.. the tube coming from plenum to regulator or put finger over regulator its self.

Ok that answer wasn't much better. Let me say it this way. I am going to unplug the vac at the regulator. Do I need to put my finger over the regulator hole or the vac tube I just pulled off that goes to plenum?

All you have to do is take the vacum hose that comes off of the fuel pressure regulator to the plenum off of the plenum. Then plug it with a screw. I dont think you need to do anything to the nipple on the plenum now. I just let it sit there open with no hose attached.

Funny now I have ninetyone saying unplug tube from plenum and plug tube which would plug the regulator. Others are saying to take it off from the regulator and plug the tube which would then plug.the.plenum and.leave the regulator open. I think I am gonna.go with plugging the tube while it is still connected to the plenum to.seal the vac and leave the regulator open free. This sounds more likely. This really isn't that hard to explain. I am either plugging the vac to the plenum or the regulator. Since regulator has no vacuum without tube plugging plenum vac seems more likely with regulator free.

Ok.well I am getting 35 with line on. Will try line off tomorrow with vac plugged. This hesitation at acceleration is driving me nuts. I start the car and when I put it in reverse to back out of driveway it dies when I hit the gas. Will also do it in drive. I can actually drive the car but I have to press gas slowly to start moving and get the car going. After a start from stand still and I get going the car will drive fine. Mostly you can still feel.a.slight stumble anytime.the gas is pressed initially. New Bosch injectors, temp sensor, iac and gaskets. Put plenum to runner bolts to.25 ft lbs. Hope that was correct. Should have changed fuel filter as well bit just bought one.today and will have put on tomorrow. Then will move on to plugs wires and cap and check timing. Anyone else have any ideas?

Actually that may be correct. Just plug the both ends if you are unsure. You could always get a small piece of hose and plug the regulator side or vice versa. Just make sure car is running while you check the pressure and adjust it. I would check the ohms on all of your injectors tho just to be sure they all ohm out to about the same. Do you smell gas while the car is running? I think your problem is something other than your pressure regulator.
