Need help with timing

I just put a new engine in my camaro a few months ago but im not exactly sure what the timing should be at..?
Its a 350 boared .040, flat top pistons, vortec heads, about 10:1 compression, edelbrock rpm intake, comp cams magnum 270h, holley 670 street avenger, summit racing hei distributor and summit plug wires.
Anyways im not really sure what my timing should be at. Right now its 16* initial, and about 36* total with 1 light spring and 1 medium. It doesnt sound like its detonating at all. But the wierd thing is i can have it well over 20* initial and it still doesnt knock under load. So my question is, should i have the timing as advanced as possible without it pinging/knocking, or should i leave it where i have it now? It doesnt feel any faster with more advance, but it does idle a little smoother. I was at the track for the first time since the swap and ran a 14.6, spinning a bit off the line. Do you guys think this is about right? I was thinking i should be at mid 13's.

Re: Need help with timing

16 and 36 sounds pretty good to me. I think I set my son's 82 z28 at 15 and 35, but had two light springs in it. It ran strong set like that. As for your times, hard to say, but if it's running without detonation you should be fine. I imagine you can't advance it too much more.
