a few 1989 Camaro rs questions.

Hello every one,

I just have a few questions about my 1989 Camaro rs v6 2.8. Let me just jump right in. The vehicle was doing ok for awhile when i bought it say a month ago. but every now and then the engine would knock which seemed to emanate from driver side/center and could be felt through my gas pedal. I did a little bit of research online and it said that with higher compression engines using a higher grade of gas can eliminate said knocking. I really didnt have a clue if my engine was high compression or not but i figured it didnt hurt to try. every thing seemed fine and dandy till just recently it has been acting strange. the shifting is weird, like sometimes it takes longer to shift then others and sometimes foot to floor gas pedal will produce more power then other times. I have had the rpms up as high as 6000 before i had to release the gas pedal in fear of blowing something. i just had the throttle position sensor replaced (big deference in power. went from sensing .68 with pedal to floor to 4.84) and am going to need to drop the tranny soon to take care of a coolent leak (also but a new radiator cap seeing as mine fails to withstand 16/18 psi.) The AUTOMATIC transmission will probably need some work soon seeing as the idiot before me liked to neutral drop and manually shift it from 1st 2nd to drive. anyway. my brother is a ASE certified deisle mechanic and ran the check engine light. It said that the issue was with the vacuum and/or sensor or something like that. (the vacuum thingy with the hose next to the actual manifold i forgot the code number.) I am really hoping that the issue is arising only because of the vacuum and not because of the tranny actually going up faster then planned. Be aware that the vehicle did sit in a Carport untouched for two years. I will appreciate any and all input on this issue and sorry its so dang long. lol
