air conditioning
air conditioning
Today I got my air condition working , it hasn't worked in years, put oil, stop leak and refrigerant in it and it was cooling great, compressor kicked on and was cycling normal but when i shut off the car i could hear a big leak from behind the compressor and it looks like it is coming from a round thing on the back like maybe it's a pressure relief valve , Is that what it is?
what can I do to stop it from leaking, will it reset itself?
a little while later it was back to blowing hot air again

Re: air conditioning
Can you take a pic of the area on the compressor where it's leaking?

Re: air conditioning
About the only thing you can do is replace the compressor and recharge everything.

Re: air conditioning
If it has a snap ring that holds it in, you need to get a replacement O ring and new snap ring. I think I know what he is talking about.
Re: air conditioning
I can't get a picture because of all the lines ,hoses and brackets in the way.
I can't even see it very good so I can't tell if it has a snap ring or not.
I can't spend a lot of money for a new compressor so If it doesn't reset it self to take a charge again I will just have to keep driving with no air conditioning.
I'm not totally sure how to even remove the compressor without hurting the lines etc.or special tools I might need.
Hate being poor !

Re: air conditioning
as far as i can tell there are no special tools needed to remove it , my friend just got a compressor from a junk yard for 35 bucks . They came on alot of cars not just f body's .good luck.
Re: air conditioning
I just need to make it work for this summer now, i'm thinking of selling the car and getting something newer for a daily driver this one isn't working out for that.
How about this, can I ******* it and get by this summer by jb welding the leaking valve and be very carefull to keep the pressure when filling it to close to 50 psi and be good for now ?

I don't know about that. I imagine the JB won't hold.
