One problem with many possible causes?
My 87 Trans Am is all put together and drivable now. But it is having some issues. When you accelerate, the car puts thru first gear till about 3500rpm when it shifts and takes off like a rocket ship. These are the possible causes that I can think of. It is a 96 vortec 350 with hedman longtubes, performer intake, jet stage 2 quadrajet carb, comp 270hr cam.
1. Overcammed for the stall and gears. Stall is stock and geas are 2.73s. Cam is a comp 270hr. I think this might be part of the reason but the car is ungodly sluggish in first gear, making me to believe its more than this.
2. Bad transmission. 1st gear possibly shot? It is not sluggish in any gear but 1st.
3. Not enough timing. After getting it back in the garage, we added some timing and it smoothed out, and picked up some response. Have not took it back out to test.
4. Mechanical fuel pump not supplying enough fuel? It is pretty much a factory pump from autozone.
5. Thermostat to low. It has a 160 thermostat and currently the fans are wired to run at all times (temporary). When warmed up it is only getting to 160 or lower.
6. Not sure what complications this could cause but the gas cap is not vented. This caused the canister behind the drivers headlight to make a loud kinda beeping type noise. Any input on this?
Thats what I can think of right now. All help is appreciated. Thanks!
